Two days ago I have upgraded my running Virtualbox software to new version 4.3.4. After upgrade I was not able to start and run any of my virtual machines (Win7 32it, Xubuntu, KaliLinux, Mint) which works fine inside of previous virtualbox version.<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\tAfter start I have received window with message telling that VT-x is disabled inside of the BIOS. (VERR_VMX_MSR_SMX_VMXON_DISABLED)}<\/span>, preserve=false\r\n00:00:01.065228 Power up failed (vrc=VERR_VMX_MSR_SMX_VMXON_DISABLED, rc=E_FAIL (0X80004005))<\/pre>\n<div>\n\tSome guides recommends to enable virtualization support inside of PC BIOS, but as I mentioned, before upgrade everything work fine. Anyway I&#39;ve tried it, hovever I have not found required option (older BioS, Q8550 Intel CPU).&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\tInside of Virtualbox the acceleration settings which is available through virtual machine Settings -&gt; System -&gt; Acceleration tab is grayed out and unaccessible.<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\tThen I found t<a href=\"https:\/\/bbs.archlinux.org\/viewtopic.php?pid=1356653\">he solution<\/a>, which recommends disable VT-x, so run&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n<pre style=\"border: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; padding: 0px; font-size: 1em; overflow: auto; width: 791px; direction: ltr; color: rgb(34, 34, 34); line-height: 19px;\">\r\n<code style=\"font-size: 1em; padding: 0.75em; display: inline-block;\">vboxmanage list vms<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\twhere in my case shows my VMs<\/div>\n<div>\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/files\/image\/Virtualization\/vbox-vtxerror\/Vt-x-error-3.png\" style=\"width: 500px; height: 222px;\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\tand then&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n<pre style=\"border: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; padding: 0px; font-size: 1em; overflow: auto; width: 791px; direction: ltr; color: rgb(34, 34, 34); line-height: 19px;\">\r\n<code style=\"font-size: 1em; padding: 0.75em; display: inline-block;\">vboxmanage modifyvm &lt;name or uuid of vm&gt; --longmode off<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\tin my case for example<\/div>\n<div>\n<pre style=\"padding: 0px; font-size: 1em; border: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; overflow: auto; width: 791px; direction: ltr; color: rgb(34, 34, 34); line-height: 19px;\">\r\n<code style=\"font-size: 1em; padding: 0.75em; display: inline-block;\">vboxmanage modifyvm Win7-32 --longmode off<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\tNow I&#39;m able at least start and run Win 7 &#8211; 32bit, KaliLinux (32bit debian) VB machines. Other machine does not run (MInt, Xubuntu) with critical error.<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t<strong>Notes:<\/strong><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>\n\t\tNote1: Downgrade to VBox 4.3.2 does not help.<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tNote2: Try edit VM_NAME.vbox file where replace &lt;HardwareVirtEx enabled=&quot;true&quot;\/&gt; for &lt;HardwareVirtEx enabled=&quot;false&quot;\/&gt;<\/li>\n<li>\n\t\tNote3: After a while after writing this post I have found an easy way and I did upgrade of my MotherBoard BIOS (5year old) to the latest one. This solve my issue and i&#39;m able finally use and setup VT-x (Settings -&gt; System -&gt; Acceleration tab is accessible now).
